The Greetings from the 2014 President of ICISA

Greetings from the President of ICISA! Welcome to the ICISA's web site! Here you will find information about the association, its mission, history, and services. ICISA, as an intellectual community promoting the exchange of information and cooperation among its members, has grown and maintained a stable membership base since 1992. I would like to express my gratitude to my immediate predecessor Dr. Jeff Zhang and his team as well as previous presidents for their wonderful work before my term. In the recent years, we have seen the membership demographics graduately expanding to include professionals from production and operations management, even accounting field. In adition, the student membership has increased substantially. We are happy to see this trend because the association is not just serving the needs of information systems professionals but students and professionals from other related fields. On the other hand, this trend prompted us to rethink our mission and the association's future development. One of my goals as President is to continue our effort in promoting our association and expand our services to our members. Working with an university in China and an academic publishing company in UK, we are in preparation for an ICISA co-sponsored international conference in China. We hope to use this event to broaden our impact in East Asian countries and foster new relationships. I hope we all work together to strengthen our association and expand its influence and make it truely beneficial to everyone. Best wishes to all of you for a wonderful summer break, and hope to see you all at 2014 ICISA annual gathering at Tampa, Florida this November! Jim Q. Chen, President of ICISA

Chinese New Year Greetings from the President of ICISA

Dear ICISA Members: The Chinese new year is right around the corner. Wish you all a very happy and productive Year of Snake! Let me take a bit of your time to offer a bit of insight into the zodiac snake, for those members who are "Snakes" :-) or who have family/relatives being "Snake"s: "They often have a good temper and a skill at communicating but say little. They possess gracious morality and great wisdom. They are usually financially secure and do not have to worry about money. They have tremendous sympathy for others and would like to take actions to help ther fellow human beings. They are determined to accomplished their goals hate to fail. Although they look calm on the surface, they are intense and passionate. They have a rich source of inspiration and understand themselves well. They are people of great perception. Women under the sign of the snake do well in housework but are irritable." Happy reading huh? :-) "The Year of Snake" is called "Little Dragon" in the Chinese culture, and we do hope and we do believe that the good and booming luck for the people of Chinese origin in the Year of Dragon will continue in the Year of Little Dragon. Same faith do we have in our association ICISA. Thanks to the support of our loyal members, and the hard work of many of my predecessors, ICISA now has a strong leadership team, serving and increased number of fine members who are diligent, successful, and enthusiastic team workers. We are embracing many new initiatives and progresses that are exciting and will take ICISA to a new level: - In San Francisco DSI meeting 2012, we had fourteen new paying members, the largest increase in many years - THANK YOU our new members, for making ICISA bigger, stronger, and more inclusive! Welcome to the ICISA Family!! - Our VP-Membership Dr. Ruidong Zhang of U Wis-Eau Claire proposed that we begin to work with major Chinese universities and professional organizations, as well as DSI/APDSI/IDSI to host a conference in mainland China, which would be the best way to boost the brand of ICISA; - Our VP-Research Enhancement Dr. Jerry Chang of U Nevada-Las Vegas proposed wonderful ideas to help our members to increase research productivity and quality - let me excerpt the title sentences of his proposal below: "First, we could promote member research by adding a page on the ICISA web site to showcase member publications. Second, we could celebrate member's new publications by announcing them to all members. Third, we could start a mentoring program. Forth, we could further promote member research activities by asking members to tape, if possible, their research and/or workshop presentations (either at conference or invited) and make them available on the association web site. Fifth, we could start a few discussion forums or on research topics. Lastly, we could organize synchronous group online meetings (Skype, Google+, etc.) for various topics. " - All the above, will need the strong leadership and support from our VP-Info Technology Dr. She-I Chang of National Chung Cheng University (who is greatly appreciated in maintaining our website icisa.info), and our Editor-In-Chief of Communications of ICISA Dr. Wei-Hsi Hung, also of Chung Cheng U. - We are blessed to have a new and very important officer, Dr. Huei Lee of Eastern Michigan University, who was former VP and President of ACME (American Chinese Management Educators), to join our team as our secretary. With his rich experience in organizing ACME activities, we at ICISA will embrace rich and exciting journey ahead. - We created ICISA's Facebook page (www.facebook.com/icisa.org) and LinkedIn account (http://www.linkedin.com/groups/ICISA-International-Chinese-Information-Systems) , so our members can visit and social and exchange great ideas in teaching, research, service, and fun! - And last but not the least, our current treasurer and president-elect, Dr. Jim Chen, who has rich admin experience from his chairship at St Cloud State University, is whom we can always count on and will take our Association to a new level next year. Dear ICISA Family, we are so excited at the door of this New Year, to look forward to, to embrace, and to energetically work to unfold all those great initiatives! Let us keep close contact, let us visit our Facebook and LinkedIn page/account and social there and share great achievements, ideas, and funs, and let us work to bring ICISA to conferences in China as well as to greatly enhance our members research productivity and quality, and, after all, make ICISA our professional HOME! Thank you, all members: you are what ICISA is all about, you are the reason why ICISA exist, and you are what makes ICISA strong, great, attractive, and such a warm family! Let's all work together to make this family more prosperous, in the Year of Little Dragon! Best wishes to you and your family: good health, safety, serenity, and prosperity! Happy New Year from ICISA

Dear ICISA members, I am sure that you are enjoying your winter break (or New Year holiday). On behalf of the leadership team of ICISA, I would like to wish you a very happy and prosperous year. You will notice from the attached short bios that our leadership team represents each major geographic area of our members. We also have local representatives in US, China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Together we can serve our members better in these areas. There are several changes, updates and reminders that I would like to share. New Vice Presiden I have created a new position called VP - Research Enhancement. Dr. Jerry Chang was so kind to accept my nomination to serve on this important role. The goal of this position is to help facilitate or enhance research collaborations. This will benefit members at all levels. For example, junior faculty and PhD students will benefit from the opportunity to work with the many senior and experienced scholars among our members. It will be easier for members to identify scholars with the common interest for research or grant projects. If you are interested in research initiatives with us, please send Dr. Chang or me your research expertise and areas of interest. We would like to have it on February 1, 2012 if possible. Communication and Promotion As a technology profession, it makes a reasonable sense to move with the technology advancements. Our VP-Communication, Ms. Yeh, is busy building our web presence on Facebook. Our goal is to move much of our Internet service to social media to make it easier for members to keep in touch. More about this will be announced later. Our VP-Membership, Dr. Zhang, is exploring ways (such as PayPal) to help make it easier to pay the membership due. Speaking of the membership due, we have not increased it in so many years. It is still $20 for full membership and $10 for student membership. If you haven't had a chance to pay this year's membership due, please use the attached membership form and send your payment to our treasurer, Dr. Jim Chen. Technology Please do keep in mind that you have access to ICISA's mailing list. If you haven't done it, please subscribe to it at the following location: https://icisa.info/mailman/listinfo/discussions_icisa.info To send an email to all recipients, send it to the following address. Our mailing list manager will review and approve your email before it reaches our members. [email protected] Please do enjoy the rest of your break. Should you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to send them to me. I look forward to working with you. Thank you.

New publication by ICISA President

Dear ICISA Members: New publication by ICISA President and some introduction about this book. Principles of Supply Chain Management Richard E.Crandall,Appalachian State University, Boone, North Carolina, USA;William Crandall,University of North Carolina, Pembroke, USA;Charlie C.Chen,Appalachian State University, Boone, North Carolina, USA An increasingly global business landscape means that even the smallest of companies must contend with a growing base of international suppliers and customers. With that, comes a myriad of technical, organizational, and cultural changes that challenge traditional management practices. Regardless of the means taken to address these challenges, all companies will eventually have to synchronize the flow of their products, information, and funds. Going beyond the usual supply chain text, Principles of Supply Chain Management not only details the individual components of the supply chain but also illustrates how the pieces must come together for an effective supply chain. Providing the logic behind why supply chain management is essential, the text examines how supply chains are evolving, looks ahead to future developments, and also: Provides a balanced look at supply chains with a focus on where it needs to be the customer Describes the forward supply chain (from the supplier to the customer) and the reverse supply chain (recycling) Reviews contemporary sustainability concepts including triple bottom line, cradle-to-grave, and cradle-to-cradle Includes extensive discussions on retailing, distribution, and manufacturing topics Details supply chain flows of physical goods, information, and funds Highlights the need for coordinated change in technology, infrastructure, and cultures among supply chain members Focusing on the customer and working backwards through distribution, manufacturing, and the extractive industries of mining and agriculture, the text provides numerous examples and case histories to outline a proven approach for achieving effective supply chain integration. This self-contained resource provides readers with a realistic appraisal of the state of the art in supply chain management and the understanding needed to build and manage effective supply chains in a wide-range of industries. Most importantly, it emphasizes the need for building and maintaining cooperation and collaboration among all members of the supply chain.
